Is Hokm a game of pure luck, or does skill reign supreme? This age-old question sparks debate every time cards are dealt—without ever reaching a satisfying answer. We decided to settle it once and for all with hard data.

The Old Question: Card Distribution or Skill?

Anyone who's played Hokm has said, "The deal was lucky." Or the opposite: "Hokm is skill, not luck." We decided to settle this debate with data.

Analysis Method

1,000 4-player Hokm games from AsNard's servers were analyzed. Factors included final score, number of trump tricks per hand, home team win percentage, and luck coefficient per hand.

Result: Both, But...

The analysis showed that in a single game, luck accounts for about 35%. But in the long run (50+ games), skill determines about 90% of the outcome. So Hokm is a mix of luck and skill, but pro players consistently win over time.

Key insight: If you lose 10 games in a row, it's not bad luck. It's time to change your strategy.

What Makes Skill?

  • Card counting: Knowing which cards are still in play
  • Team coordination: Smart signaling and team play
  • Trump management: When to pull trump and when not to
  • Decision making: Choosing between safe wins and risky big plays

Luck in Service of Skill

Pro players turn luck to their advantage. They create conditions where even with bad cards they have a winning chance. That's the real difference between average and champion.
